How many hours of ice time are in a typical camp day?

Boarding camps offer three-five hours of ice daily, spread throughout the day. Check the appropriate tab on this web site for a typical daily schedule for your child's camp and the amount of ice at that particular camp.

   

What occurs during dry land training?

Included are fun and entertaining stickhandling circuits (guaranteed to soften the hardest hands); dry land training circuits include various speed/agility/quickness/
explosiveness training using all of today's up-to-date technology to lengthen stride, increase quickness off the line, increase flexibility and, create a better, more versatile/powerful athlete. Also, games which incorporate team building/dynamic strategies, such as trust walk, mine field, positive reframing activities, European handball, steal the bacon, dodgeball, and, soccer, among others. At Kents Hill and BU only there are shooting stations to improve a player's shot.

   

What if my child does not have a street hockey stick for dry land training?

Any hockey stick that you don't mind using outside is fine.

What do the campers do when they are not skating?

Off-ice activities include guest speakers, strength training, dry land training, games, video critiques and, off-campus activities throughout the week. Check the camp description page on the web site to see what activities will be offered.

   

What kind of supervision and security is available in the residence halls?

At all camps, supervision is the number one concern and we take tremendous pride in this detail. Pro Ambitions counselors live in the halls with the campers. At Boston University and URI, Campus Security provides 24-hour front desk coverage. No one can be admitted to the building without a proper ID. At Kents Hill, the Stratton Mountain School, Lake Tahoe and Milton Academy Pro Ambitions hires a security guard who patrols the campus and walks through the halls from 6pm - 6:00am. All staff have been through stringent background checks and are CORI and SORI certified. They also have been medically cleared.

   

What does my child need to bring to a BOARDING CAMP?

Each camper should bring the following:

  • YOUR JERSEY WILL BE MAILED TO YOUR REGISTRATION ADDRESS PRIOR TO THE 1ST DAY OF CAMP.  IT IS MANDATORY FOR  IST DAY ON THE ICE.  IF LOST YOU CAN PURCHASE ONE FROM OUR ONLINE STORE.
  •  YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE (MANDATORY)
  • Linens,Pillow, Blankets, Towels, Toiletries, Bathing Suit
  • Sneakers  (Proper running shoes for Dry LandTraining).
  • FullHockey equipment including neck guardand mouth piece
  • 2Hockey Sticks & 1 Street Hockey Stick
  • Medications
  • HealthForm, Immunization Record and Liability Waiver Form.
  • Fan(optional), Alarm Clock
  • Yourname taped to the front of your helmet
  • Extraspending money ($100 recommended for emergencies, additional activitiesand snacks)

Please be sure all equipment fits and is in good condition, including skates (kids grow quickly!).


   

How are roommates assigned? (DOUBLES ROOMS ONLY)

Campers are assigned roommates by age and by camp, if more than one camp is running concurrently (for example, AAA, All Skills. Defense, etc.)

   

How can my child request a roommate? (DOUBLES ROOMS ONLY)

After registering, each camper receives a form which includes a roommate preference section. Requests are honored to the best of our ability.

   

What if my child has special dietary restrictions or food allergies?

Pro Ambitions works with Dining Services at each camp to accommodate any special needs.

   

What if my child needs to take medications at camp?

A camp nurse and/or nursing student is available 24 hours/day and stores all prescription and non-prescription medications brought to camp. Medications are administered when necessary to each camper. All medical staff members are First Aid/CPR certified.

   

Can campers have cell phones?

Yes.

   

If my child has a calling card, are pay phones available in the residence halls?

Yes.

   

Who can we call in case of emergency?

At check-in, telephone numbers will be provided for emergency situations. Each camper will be assigned a group leader the first day of camp. You will have several contact numbers available to you.

   

If my child stays for two weeks, what accommodations are available for the weekend?

Pro Ambitions weekend stays for boarding camps are inclusive of all meals, planned activities and 24 Hr. Supervision.

   

Are laundry facilities available for campers staying for two weeks?

Yes, during the weekend, campers are given time to do laundry. A counselor is available to help those who need it.

   

Where can parents stay when dropping off or picking up a camper?

The cities and towns where each camp is located offer a variety of lodging choices. To help with the right selection, check the following web sites:

   

Are parents allowed to watch practices and scrimmages during the week?

Yes, parents are always welcome.

   

What is the camper to counselor ratio?

There is never more than a 5:1 ratio. Some specialty camps have a ratio as low as 3:1.

   

Is it possible for our child to leave camp with a family friend or relative?

Campers may leave campus, as long as arrangements are made in advance and we have written parental permission. The camper must also notify his/her counselor when leaving and returning.

   

Is there a Pro Shop available at camp?

For an additional fee, the rink will provide skate sharpening and small hockey equipment needs. We suggest bringing extra tape, a mouthpiece and, laces.

   

Is there a store or snack bar available at camp?

Yes

   

Are your staff checked through CORI/SORI Certification?

Yes, all staff backgrounds are checked through the local criminal board.

   

How will we know whether our camper's strengths and weaknesses were addressed?

Each camper receives a "Report Card" or, analysis of skills, on the last day of camp.

How do I get a refund if my child can not attend camp?

Cancellations before May 1, 2008 will receive a cash refund less 25% of the total cost of camp. Cancellations after May 1, 2008 will receive a letter of credit (voucher) less 25%. Cancellations within 20 days of a camp session receive no refund.

If a camper becomes sick or injured at camp or before camp, 50% of the unused portion of the camp tuition will be returned in a letter of credit (voucher) for a 2009 camp or clinic. A Doctors Note is Required.

Pro Ambitions Hockey, Inc. can not provide refunds for cancellations due to unforeseen acts of God, including facility damage/closing complications or weather related rink/facility cancellations. These are highly unlikely to occur but in the event it does, we will issue credit vouchers for the full amount paid for the affected program. If Pro Ambitions Hockey, Inc cancels for any other reason not specified above we will offer you a full refund.

 



Do I need to have my child's name on his/her helmet?

Yes, please tape his/her first name on the front of the helmet.

   

Is someone available to help my child with his/her skates and equipment?

Yes, counselors are available for help in the locker rooms at all times.

   

Is lunch provided at day camps?

No, campers must bring their own lunches in an insulated lunch box with an ice pack or, purchase one if the rink has a concession stand. Call the rink in advance to find out if the snack bar is open.

   

What if my child does not have a street hockey stick for dry land training?

Any hockey stick that you don't mind using outside is fine.

   

What if I am unable to pick up my child on time?

All campers must be picked up at the time designated at the end of the camp day. Those remaining more than 15 minutes after the end of camp will be charged a late fee of $25/hour.

   

What if my child has never played in a "checking" situation before?

Chances are he/she has and you just don’t know it. Players run into each other inadvertently all the time and kids are very vulnerable approaching pucks in dangerous areas of the ice. Pro Ambitions teaches campers how to battle properly and safely, how to respect the opponent, how to approach pucks in all dangerous areas and, how to come out victoriously. Also, campers are grouped by age and size, so they will be matched appropriately for battle situations.

What do the campers do when they are not skating?

Most day camps have a lunch break/chalk talk from 11am-12pm, dry land training from 12-1pm and stickhandling circuits from 3-4pm

   

Do campers get water breaks during their ice time?

Each camper should bring a water bottle to camp (labeled with his/her name) and keep it on the bench. Whenever a camper needs water, he/she can get it. There is a 10-minute break after the first 50-minutes of ice in both the morning and afternoon sessions.

   

What is dry land training?

What time is check-in the first day? And then the remaining days after that?

Check in is 8:00 a.m. the first day. Although we skate at 9:00 a.m., this allows time for any unforeseen circumstances. You will have time to help your player in the locker room and have him/her on the ice by 9:00 a.m. The remainder of the week, check in is 8:30 a.m. or, for clinics, half an hour before the scheduled ice time. Times/dates are subject to change and some locations start end at different times. Please check website schedule page for accurate info.

   

What do we need to bring to the DAY CAMP?

You must bring the following to day camps and clinics:

  • Bring your Pro Ambitions Kick Ice Jersey it is mandatory for 1st Day on the ice.

  • YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE (MANDATORY)

  • Full Hockey equipment including neck guard and mouth piece
  • Sneakers, t-shirt, shorts and sweatshirt (for off-ice time)
  • Your name taped to the front of your helmet
  • Lunch, beverages and 2 snacks…in insulated cooler with ice pack and remember to eat a hearty breakfast! (Call the rink for their snack bar schedule. It might not be open during camp hours.)
  • Any special medications or instructions for coaches
  • Street Hockey Stick
  • Health forms, Immunization Records and Liability Waiver signed

Make sure skates are sharpened and all equipment fits properly, especially skates.

How do I find local hotel info?

Call the rink or, check their web site, for the most up-to-date hotel information. Some rinks offer discounts at local lodging. Be sure to ask if they have any special arrangements.
